Using SmallShrink

A quick guide to using SmallShrink.

Firstly, make sure you have enough disk space. It’s difficult to be sure how much you will need, because it depends on what you’re copying, but you typically need a bit less than size of the source DVD plus the size of the target DVD. So if you’re copying an 8Gb DVD to a 4.7Gb DVD, you probably need around 12Gb.

Then, choose the DVD you want to copy:

The titles on the DVD will be shown, with the longest selected.

You can copy multiple titles by holding the cmd key while selecting them. These will simply play one after another on the created DVD.

You can also change the output folder for the DVD image, and the filename to use. The filename will automatically have .iso added onto it when the disk image is created, or .mpg if individual files are to be extracted (this is specified in the advanced settings).

When you’re ready, press “Go”. The copying process can take quite a while – be patient!

A log file indicating progress can be found in the output folder, entitled smallshrink.log. If you are having problems, this might help work out why.
