Scheduled Creation

To automatically create the newspaper every day, tick the “Run daily” option on the Settings page, and choose the time you would like it to run.

(The choice of scheduled times is currently rather limited – I’ll fill that in a later release)

If SmallNews isn’t running at the scheduled time, it will start creating the newspaper when it next starts up.

When daily runs are enabled, the time of the next scheduled run is indicated in the message bar at the bottom of the window

If you manually create the newspaper (by pressing the button on the home page), this won’t prevent the scheduled run happening.

Wait for publication
The Guardian‘s web site has a page listing all today’s articles in the order in which they were printed. This is far better than the purely chronological order of the RSS feed, because related stories are often placed together. However, these are not always updated first thing in the morning; it can sometimes be mid-morning before all the sections are there. So the Wait for publication option tells SmallNews to delay any scheduled run until all sections are ready. It will check every few minutes, starting from the scheduled time.
If you create the newspaper manually, this option is ignored, and whichever version is currently available will be used.
